2021 Transgender Day of Visibility
Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility
We at Shire Post Mint want to send a message to transgender members of our extended family (anyone who has admired our coins) that we see you, you are valid, and we love you.
There is some very scary anti-trans legislation passing all around the United States. Two bills in our home state of Arkansas are very concerning:
AR HB1570 would prohibit healthcare professionals from providing or even referring transgender young people for medically necessary health care. It would bar any state funds for gender-affirming health care for transgender people under 18, and it would allow private insurers to refuse to cover gender-affirming care for people of any age. It is one of the most extreme and harmful anti-trans bills in the country. It will be the most extreme piece of anti-trans legislation ever signed into law.
AR SB450/354 bans transgender girls from participating in school sports.
“…this bill isn’t really about sports. Just like every other anti-trans piece of legislation, Senate Bill 354 is all about banishing and erasing transgender people from public spaces – and we won’t stand for it.” - Holly Dickson, ACLU of Arkansas executive director.
10% of all sales on shirepost.com today, March 31st, 2021, will be donated to InTRANSitive Arkansas.
Donations to InTRANSitive will help fund three things:
- Help InTRANSitive fight the anti-Trans bills passing in Arkansas right now
- Support sustaining their work. InTRANSitive is a small grassroots organization led by Trans people with very limited funding. For the past three years they have operated with a 5k annual budget
- Support Trans people in emergency situations. The Brayla Stone Microgrants support Black Trans women and girls in Arkansas, while the Trans Siblinghood Fund supports undocumented Trans people in Arkansas. Most of the grantees of these funds are facing homelessness, food insecurities, evictions and/or domestic violence.
