King Arthur Coin - Silver Siliqua of Arthur Pendragon

Sale price$36.11

Legendary King of the Britons

This design was based on the legends of the historical King Arthur, who would have lived somewhere around the 5th century, supposedly one of the last holdouts of the Roman culture on the isle of Britannia. On the obverse is Arthur Pendragon and the inscription: Artorius dux Bellorum Brit, translating to Arthur, Warlord of the Britons. The reverse bears a victrix, a Roman-style female winged figure. This is thought to be related to the Norse concept of the Valkyrie, and to the later Christian imagery of angels. The inscription reads Mons Badonis, referring to Arthur's victory at Badon Hill. The mintmark PCAM refers to Camelot.

Great historical fantasy coins!

I bought this on a whim, and I'm glad I did! I normally collect ancient, medieval, and other world coins, but these historical fantasy coins looked so well-engraved, I thought 'why not'. Not only are they well-designed, they are beautiful in-hand, and are even minted on irregular flans, just like a real ancient coin. The Arthur Pendragon siliqua looks like the real-deal when placed next to the actual Constantinian-era siliqua in my collection. What a great buy!

For fans of Arthurian legends

SPM certainly knows how to work silver to make fine collection pieces. This is yet another example of their work.
