The Vegvísir Guides the Way Through the Storm. The Vegvísir, or Norse compass, is an Icelandic magical stave, which, according to the Huld manuscript, protects one from losing their way in bad weather. The vikings used the word "hafvilla or "bewildered, " meaning having no sense of direction or being lost at sea. We created this coin to help guide us through modern moments of hafvilla.
Encircling the Vegvísir is the runic transliteration of the Icelandic phrase, "Ég stoppar ekki Þegar Þreyttur, ég stoppar Þegar ég er búinn", which translates to, "I do not stop when tired, I stop when done."
The solid bronze is struck with an incuse design, in which the letters are lowered rather than raised. This way the lettering will stay dark even if the coin is carried daily.
Surface and Quality Control
This is a hand-poured giant bronze coin upcycled from the remnants of our coinmaking process. Due to the handmade nature of this object, the weight and thickness will vary. Surface imperfections such as small cracks from the press force are likely present.
"Seconds" castings that do not pass quality inspection and have notable defects or voids may be sold in a separate listing in the future.

Our Process
Shire Post Mint coins are struck one at a time in West Fork, Arkansas, USA using solid metals, hand-engraved designs, antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. For antiqued coins, the coloring/patina process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science so coins will vary slightly. Our unique packaging includes a description of each coin and translations if applicable.
