Capricorn, the tenth sign in the Zodiac, is named for the constellation Capricornus, which is Latin for “horned goat” or “goat horn”. Since the Middle Bronze Age, it has often been represented as a sea goat (a horned goat with the tail of a fish). This imagery is related to the Babylonian god of water, knowledge, mischief, and creation, Ea. In Greek mythology, this constellation is often identified with Amalthea, the goat who suckled Zeus as a baby.
People born from December 22nd-January 19th are considered to have Capricorn as their ‘Sun sign’ - the part of an astrological chart that determines ego, identity, the character one plays in life.
The sign of Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn and the element of earth. Those with this Sun sign are often thought of as especially responsible, motivated, and conscientious individuals.
