Virgo, the sixth sign in the Zodiac, is associated with the constellation, its Latin name meaning “virgin”. The mythology behind this symbol is varied, and there are a few different feminine archetypes with whom Virgo is identified, including but not limited to: Shala the Mesopotamian goddess of grain, Demeter the Greek harvest goddess and her daughter Persephone, Astraea the Greek virgin goddess of innocence, purity and precision, and much later on the Virgin Mary from the Christian theology.
People born from August 23rd-September 22nd are considered to have Virgo as their ‘Sun sign’ - the part of an astrological chart that determines ego, identity, the character one plays in life. ‘Moon sign’ relates to the subconscious, intuition, inner world, and emotional self.
The sign of Virgo is ruled by the planet Mercury and the element of earth. Those with this Sun sign are often thought of as especially nurturing, methodical, and resourceful individuals. Those with a Virgo Moon are often thought of as especially practical, discerning, and enthusiastic individuals.
